CLEVELAND - The man out on bond after pleading guilty to several charges of burglary and theft for breaking into schools was arrested by Marshals on Friday on new charges.
Jon Titter, 38, was wanted for stealing cell phones and laptops from a boys locker room at Willoughby South High School Tuesday evening, according to U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott.
He was also wanted for stealing items, including yearbooks, from Hawken School.
U.S. Marshals said they arrested Titter at his home on Buckner Drive in Euclid.
After pleading guilty last month to June break-ins at University School and the Upper and Lower Campuses of University School, Titter was released from the Cuyahoga County Jail on a $2,500 personal bond. He was scheduled to be sentenced next week.
According to court records, Titter is a registered sex offender and has a prior conviction for illegal use of minors in nudity-oriented material with a sexual motivation.
“He's a great guy to get off the streets, and I'm hoping he's off the streets permanently,” Elliott said.
Last week, a Geauga County grand jury indicted Titter on charges including breaking and entering and theft for a break-in at Hawken School in June on the same night he broke into other area private schools. An arrest warrant was issued out of Geauga County.
“He did admit to the break-ins; however, he did not give us a motive,” said Geauga County Prosecutor Jim Flaiz. “We are very concerned. Number one, this seems to be a pattern. There are multiple high schools now in three different counties that Mr. Titter has broken into and given his background and the fact that he is a registered sex offender; I am very concerned.”
Elliott said investigators found a Hawken yearbook at Titter’s home Friday and also found suspected child pornography on a computer.
Flaiz said he will seek a high bond to keep Titter behind bars.
