MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio – The man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Middleburg Heights was named Wednesday.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Israel Rondon, 65, of Middleburg Heights.
The shooting happened Tuesday just before 3 p.m. on Sheldon Road.
Rondon was being served with a probation violation; that’s when sources said the man fired at Cuyahoga County sheriff’s deputies and they returned fire.
It does not appear that any deputies were injured.
Court records show a warrant was issued for Rondon in February of 2013.
The warrant was issued after he failed to appear for probation. He had been on probation after pleading no contest in September 2012 on assault and carrying concealed weapons charges.
The court docket also shows that a psychiatric evaluation was done while he was awaiting trial.
