MANSFIELD, Ohio- A high school student who thought it would be fun to pull people over with a car which he outfitted to look like a police cruiser, now got a free ride in a real patrol car.
James Simmons, 18, is facing misdemeanor charges of impersonating a peace officer, possession of criminal tools, and unlawful restraint.
Richland County Sheriff Major Joseph Masi says Simmons is alleged to have been operating a white unmarked car with flashing lights in the grill and pulling over motorists.
A release says Simmons is alleged to have bought the ex-police car Oct. 13 and Simmons added the lights in the grill.
Deputies saw the vehicle in the Madison Comprehensive High School parking lot Oct. 24.
Simmons cooperated with deputies and said he made poor choices and thought it was fun at the time.
Anyone who was stopped by the vehicle is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
