CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — A 25-year-old Cleveland woman is dead after what appears to be an accidental shooting outside a restaurant at Severance Town Center.

Cleveland Heights Police responded to the International House of Pancakes on Mayfield Road just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

Once on scene, officers located the victim, Nadia Williams, 25, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Paramedics rushed Williams to University Hospitals, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The preliminary investigation found that Williams and three other women were involved in an altercation inside the restaurant with a security guard, employed by IHOP.

Police tell FOX 8 that the security guard attempted to escort the women off the premises, but as the group exited the front entrance, a physical altercation occurred and the security guard was knocked to the ground. His weapon discharged one shot, which struck Williams in the head.

Officers took the three women and the security guard into custody and took them to the police station for questioning.

No charges have been filed, and police are not releasing the names of the three women or the security guard.

A source says the security guard is employed as a bailiff for Cleveland Municipal Court. He was also employed by IHOP.

In a statement released Saturday, IHOP spokesperson Craig Hoffman said: “While are aware  of this unfortunate situation, we cannot comment on an ongoing police investigation.”
